INTRODUCTION

The kiwiberry species Actinidia arguta has a long history of cultivation in the US and abroad, and we believe that prospective growers in the northeast US should be aware of this history as they consider the future direction of kiwiberry production in the region and their potential role in it.  In these introductory sections, you will find the background information needed to bring you up to speed on the origin and relevant production biology of A. arguta; its regional and global history, including past and current efforts at commercial production; and its recommended branding and marketing.  Also presented is an overview of relevant traits, current variety recommendations for our region, as well as tips to avoid poor quality/misidentified plant stock.
